The Cohen Group, LLC (TCG) is a new philanthropic consulting firm based in Charleston, SC. We help higher education institutions, churches, small nonprofits, and other small organizations strengthen their fundraising and tell their story in a clear, confident way.

We work as a virtual firm/in person , which means we meet you where you are—by phone, Zoom, in person or email—and use simple, practical technology to stay connected and get the work done

The Cohen Group is led by founder and principal consultant Veronica M. Cohen , who has spent more than 30 years in higher education administration and advancement. Over her career, she has led teams, raised funds, and supported campaigns from inside the institutions she served.

While The Cohen Group is a new company , it is built on years of real, hands-on experience working in the field—not theory.

Company History

September 2020

The Cohen Group grew out of Veronica M. Cohen’s many years working in higher education advancement. In her roles on campus, she saw firsthand how hard it can be for colleges and universities—especially Historically Black Colleges—to raise the funds they need and keep their institutions strong.

Over time, Veronica used her skills to support several major projects and campaigns for the organizations she worked for. After seeing what worked (and what didn’t), she felt led to create something of her own that could help more organizations do this work well. That idea became The Cohen Group , which she registered as a Limited Liability Company on September 1, 2020
In the early stages, instead of rushing to find clients, Veronica focused on doing her homework —researching the fundraising landscape, studying best practices, and organizing the tools and strategies she had used successfully in her previous positions.
Today, The Cohen Group is new but grounded : it stands on Veronica’s real-world experience —years of working inside institutions, solving problems, and helping teams raise money and build stronger programs. The firm exists to serve nonprofits, churches, schools and small businesses that want honest guidance, realistic plans, and a partner who understands the work from the inside.
